A leading national newspaper has an extensive sports section on its website, which has proved to be immensely popular with its readers. They now wish to make their sports results service accessible via WAP, Voice and SMS, to supplement the existing results service on the web.

People interested in the results service go to a specific website to create a personalised profile. Here they can set up details of the results that they wish to view eg: Football, Snooker and Tennis. Users can then view their own personalised sports results page using a WAP phone or a PC. They can also access content via a voice call. By using voice or the phone keypad to login, they can then access content simply by saying commands. Registered users can also set up their profile to send SMS alerts when a goal is scored or a set is won. If a user wishes to find out information that is not included in his profile, he can use a keyword system to get the information he needs via SMS.

Steve is a keen Chelsea supporter. He also follows Golf. He sets up a user profile and chooses Premier League results, Chelsea results and news and Golf News to be his default content. He has also chosen to be alerted when new Chelsea news or results are available. Other sports results and news can be accessed by browsing the site. He can view this personalised content both via a PC using an Internet browser and via a WAP phone, PDA or other WAP-enabled mobile device. Steve also receives SMS alerts whenever Chelsea news is posted on the site. He can then dial into the site using his WAP phone to read the full story.
